1898 - London
|
Not one but a series of three / four races - 27 December 1897 to 1 January 1898; 3 to 8; 10 to 15 and 17 to 22 January 1898. The reason for the doubt being that the first two weeks of racing were combined into a single total making a Double Six.

CYCLING AT THE AQUARIUM Daily News (London, England) Tuesday, 28-Dec-1897

“A twelve days’ International Cycling Contest for ladies was commenced yesterday at the Royal Aquarium, Westminster, the building being packed with spectators. Owing to the large number of entrants the riders (comprising many of the best English and Continental lady cyclists) were divided into three sections, as follows; Section 1 - Mlles Neva and Dedaele, Misses Pattison and Lane. Section 2 - Mlles Roget, Beany Vautro, and Palliarde, and Misses Farrar and Anderson. Section 3 - Mlles Marcelle Vautro and Eglee and Misses Blackburn and Harwood. The sections ride twice daily, of one and a half hours’ duration each ride. From commencement the pace was very fast in all sections, with the result that several of the riders, not being accustomed to the track, failed to negotiate the corners, and came to grief. At the conclusion of the day’s riding the scores stood: Miss Farrar, 57 miles 3 laps; Mlle. Roger, 56 miles 9 laps; Miss Harwood, 56 miles 2 laps; Mlle Eglee, 56 miles 2 laps; Miss Blackburn, 56 miles 2 laps; Miss Anderson, 56 miles; Miss Lane, 56 miles; and Mlle Dedaele, 59 miles 8 laps.”
