1901 - London
|
After an apparent gap of two years women’s racing returned to the Royal Aquarium for at least four races - 3 to 8 June, 10 to 15 June, 17 to 22 June and 24 to 29 June. In the final two races there were Men’s sections as well as the Ladies.
However the programme for the 24 June race (opposite) listed a very limited field of six female riders - which may explain the male competitors. All the riders were British professionals it seems.
Ladies’ Race Section I 2:45 to 3:45 and 7:45 to 8:45 pm 1. Miss ANDERSON (White) 2. Miss LESLIE (Mauve) 3. Mrs WARD (Pink)
Section II 4 to 5 and 9 to 10 pm 4. Miss GOLDING (Yellow) 5. Miss HARWOOD (Black) 6. Miss PATTISON (Blue)
Men’s Race 1:30 to 2:30 and 6:30 to 7:30 pm 7. E C DAFINNEY 8. Robert HARCOURT 9. Montague HARCOURT
This may have been the last womens’ six day race ever held in Britain ... or indeed anywhere?
