“This interesting contest was continued yesterday on the track in Cardigan Fields, Leeds. The eight professional competitors remaining in the race started on the course at ten o’clock in the forenoon, and during the day they exhibited wonderful bursts of speed. Two amateurs - Mr. Tolson, of Holmfirth, and Mr. Wilkinson, of Bradford - also appeared on the track, and at nine o’clock last evening the former had run 158 miles 7 laps, and the latter 150 miles 6 laps. The distances run by the professionals at the same hour were as follows:- Lees, 536 miles 8 laps; Edlin, 527 miles 1 lap; Higham 514 miles; Roberts 498 miles 3 laps; Wright, 483 miles 8 laps; Carrick, 371 miles; Daniels, 306 miles 1 lap; T. Waller, 214 miles 1 lap.”
