“The promoters of the bicycle tournament held in the spring of this year in the Waverley Market, Edinburgh, have organised a similar entertainment, which was opened yesterday, and will continue during the remainder of the week. The competitors who started were - J. C. Lumsden, Edinburgh [J D ?]; W. Stage, Aberdeen; W. Parkes [PARK], London [?]; A. H. Hawker, Leicester; A. H. Robb, Birmingham; W. Lamb, North Shields; and J. O’Flannigan, Tipperary. The prize money amounts to £1??, of which £65 goes to the long-distance event, while the remainder will be distributed over various short-distance races. At time the following were the distances covered:- Lumsden, 129 miles; Parkes, 129; Stage, 129; Hawker, 46[?]; Lamb, 111; O’Flannigan, 116; Robb, 34.”
