“A six days’ bicycle contest at Sunderland, promoted by G. W. Waller, the well-known champion rider, which had been most extensively patronised during the week, was concluded on Saturday night. The result was as follows:- 1st (£50 and gold medal), Roberts, of Cramlington, who rode 1,030 miles; 2nd (£30), Lees, of Sheffield, with a record of 1,020 miles; 3rd (£20), J. Battensby, of Seaton Delaval, with 1,002 miles; and 4th (£16), T. Battensby, of Seaton Delaval, with 904 miles.”
